A Portrait of My Life in Words

Hello my name is Rachel Rodriguez. I moved to College Station two years ago. I was a junior in High School when I moved. My oldest brother angel has been taking care of me since then. I graduated from College Station High School in May.
I was born and raised in Mission Texas. I am into boxing. I have four brothers and I was growing up they were all in boxing. My uncle had a boxing gym and he was their coach. My brothers would fight in tournaments and I would always go with them to watch them fight. As they grew older they got tired of going to the gym. So my dad came of with the idea of making a boxing gym at home. We lived in the middle of the city so there was a lot of people that would pass through my house. We also had an acre of land so it was pretty big. Soon after a month or two the boxing ring was built and set outside our house. The boxing bags were hung on the trees, we had boxing gloves, jump ropes for kids to use and all the equipment we needed. I was a 6th grader when all this was happening. My brothers and dad encouraged me to learn boxing and I didn't want to but, so many people were going and it looked so fun that I encouraged myself to start exercising as well. Boxing has been in my family since I was small that's why it matters so much to me.
I am studying to be an Athletic Trainer. To reach my goal I am going to study hard in school and I will not give up. I hope my brother and sister in law are there for me in the future because, they have pushed me through school.  I really think if it wasn't for there support I would not be here at Blinn College. I also hope my parents and brothers are there because I grew up doing things they liked and that's why I now love to exercise. People that are in boxing know that there is a lot of exercise to be done. I would exercise so much. On our boxing club shirt we had on the back "NO PAIN NO GAIN" and that has stayed with me since then. I just know that all this school I am doing to become an Athletic Trainer at the end of these four years it will all be worth it because I will be doing something I love.

  1. I hope you get to accomplish your life goals and keep pushing until you have reached it. Just by reading your essay I learned some things about you and it was very interesting.

  2. I've had several students who were boxers, and, through their stories, I have a huge respect for the sport. Good on you. I'm glad to know you are both a serious athlete and also you will NOT be punked. Keep it up.
